Derwentside Funeral Services
Death is a tragic part of life. It is inevitable but still shrouded in mystery and to most people is a taboo subject. This was not always the case and in the past the dead were memorialised a lot in paintings and photographs. During Covid, especially through the first Lockdown Funerals were small quiet events, with some relatives having to watch at home via Internet streaming.
Often forgotten and rarely talked about, Funeral directors like Derwentside Funeral Services, have been working under unbelievable pressure due to the extra demands caused by Covid-19. Demand was up at certain times by more than 50% compared to a normal year. Restrictions upon size of funerals and ‘ashes scatterings’ have also placed further demands on staff to support families and create smaller, personalised and meaningful services.
Under the Government's Roadmap it was not until 29 March 2021, that it became possible to have a wake, reception, ashes scattering or other linked event, for up to 15 people.
