Neil Johnson - Painter
Neil has painted all of his adult life, but it wasn’t till he retired that he was able to devote regular time to his beloved hobby. He describes himself as a hobby painter but still manages to paint most days. Like most, he started out with watercolours, but describes this medium as the hardest and most unforgiving. He now paints totally in oils and says he is constantly learning and developing his style.
He is a member of Castleside Art Group and a regular exhibiter at Snods Art Show. He is keen to improve his technique and challenge himself, so regularly visits a workshop / mentor from Hexham. Neil says he doesn’t have a favourite subject or genre to paint and has tried everything from Landscapes, Portraits and even Equine and Dance studies. However, he did say that the only painting that he would never sell, was a portrait of his horse ‘Reppin Cadenza’ (seen above).
