Derwent Angling Association
Fishing is a challenging but fun water sport suited for vacations, recreation, and sometimes, a competitive sport. Anyone who has ever tried it knows that fishing can lead to success or failure, catching a fish requires knowledge, skill, and physical ability. Competition is part of the equation, too — angler versus fish, and angler versus angler.
However you approach fishing there is no dispute that it is one of Britain's most popular pastime, and a great way to enjoy being outdoors.

Derwent Angling Association was established in 1865 and is one of the oldest of its kind in the country, they control 15 miles of the river Derwent from just below the reservoir to Lintzford and they fish for brown trout and grayling. The club has a strong membership of just over 200 but new members are welcome and they are particularly keen to attract more junior members.
The photos were taken earlier in June when the club were delighted to have 2 times winner of World Champion Fly Fisherman Howard Croston giving a demonstration of his skill and technique used in competitions. Howard answered questions on the riverbank and gave one to one tuition to some members. This was very popular with club members and offered a great chance to watch an expert up close.
