Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club
Sailing is a great sport as well as a leisure activity. We are lucky to have a Sailing Club in our area, Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club (DRSC) which is run by an amazing group of volunteers. It is located in a beautiful position overlooking unspoilt hills and provides opportunities for multiple water activities, including: Sailing, Windsurfing, Kayaking, Paddle Boarding, Open Water Swimming and Rowing. We are concentrating on the sailing for the time being but will return for some of the other activities later in the project. Facilities include: A large Clubhouse, Bar, Galley, Restaurant, Changing Rooms and Training Rooms. It is spread over 12 acres of grounds which provide weekend camping opportunities, parking for a limited number of caravans, a 400 space boat park, 5 slipways and a jetty.
The club enjoys the freedom of a 3500 acre reservoir within the each reach of the main North East conurbations and offers superb facilities for all activities with a range of conditions to suit all from gentle sun-drenched days to the thrills and spills of heavy winds and competitive sailing. There are a range of competitions throughout the year and members can choose to compete for honours or just use it to hone their skills.
Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club has a long and successful history of helping people to attain their sailing goals, whether it be just pottering, cruising or racing. They have members who have gone on to sail all over the world and others have achieved great things on the race circuit; and we can include among these Regional, National, European and World Champions, not forgetting Youth and Olympic Squad members.
They hold regular and extremely popular RYA Level 1 and 2 training Courses which can be booked via their website. Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and dinghy boots are provided.
