Consett Swimming Club
Whether you swim for recreation or competitively, swimming is a great skill to learn and can be done by most people throughout their life. It is a low-impact exercise and is a great way to improve endurance, muscle strength and overall fitness. Competitive swimming started in the early 1800’s and has flourished into one of the most popular Olympic Sports.
There are many clubs around the country with a few in our region, including Consett Swimming Club based at Consett Leisure Centre. The club was first registered with the Amateur Swimming Association in 1963. It is run entirely by volunteers and over the years has nurtured numerous talented swimmers who have received remarkable success at regional, national and international level (e.g. swimmers up to Commonwealth Games medallist and top 10 status at the Olympic Games).
The club led by the former President of the Club, Sadie Walton, has a long history of money raising, initially held to support the Belle Vue pool and more recently a 10K swim challenge where funds were raised for the 'Connor King Foundation' - www.facebook.com/ConnorKingFoundation/
(who had swum at the Club).

Currently, club members are diverse and vary from children who wish to improve their swimming ability or achieve competition level swimming; Masters who wish to compete or simply wish to maintain their current level of swimming; open water swimmers and national level triathletes.
