Karate - 'Seiken Ryu Karate'
Karate, (Japanese: “empty hand”) is an unarmed martial-arts discipline employing kicking, striking, and defensive blocking with arms and legs. Emphasis is on concentrating as much of the body’s power as possible at the point and instant of impact. Striking surfaces include the hands, particularly the knuckles and the outer edge, ball of the foot, heel, forearm, knee, and elbow. Timing, tactics, and spirit, however, are each considered at least as important as physical toughening.
There are various schools or systems in Karate, each favouring somewhat different techniques and training methods. 'kata' is a system where single competitors perform predetermined series of movements simulating defence and counter attack against several opponents.
Karate, like other Asian martial-arts disciplines, stresses mental attitude, rituals of courtesy, costumes, and a complex ranking system signified by coloured belts. The order from beginner to master - is
White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Brown and Black belt. Once you reach Black Belt there are further orders called Dans, which are shown by Red bands on the belt.

Seiken Ryu Karate are a regional Karate class who we caught up with at Snods Edge Hall, which is one of their oldest classes established around 2000.
